| Oxford Word Skills |
Oxford Word Skills has 80 units of
exercises which are divided among 12 headings. Each heading is neatly divided
by the use of the words in different context like, the body, work and finance,
leisure & lifestyle, written or spoken English, etc. It helps students in
their personal needs of learning English. The exercises are designed for
advanced level learners so as to being clear who can or should use these
lessons.
The exercises are quite simple to
follow. All exercises contain paragraphs or sentences with audio clips so
students can listen to the texts while reading through them. This helps not
only learning vocabulary and their uses but also proper pronunciations of the
said text. After going through the text comes the testing phase of the
exercises. These are simple point and click or click and drag based tasks which
are easy to understand. There are two levels of exercises according to their
level of difficulty. The harder level consists of typing in correct words where
blank.
OWS is a great practicing platform
for people who would like to improve their vocabulary. People with specific
interests like finance can work on words related to their topic of interest.
Therefore it can be used for teaching English for Specific Purposes. The whole
software is based on communicative language teaching where the use or function
of language is the basis of English Learning. Teachers and students can also
use OWS for learning general English. Students can find the liberty to go
through the exercises without the usual guidance of teachers as the tasks are
simplified with instructions and audio clips. The exercises also include
grammar based tasks with basic word formations and types.
