Everwrite: An
enthusiastic tool for language learner
'Everwrite' is language learning software directly connects
with people who are involved in teaching and learning. This tool has been developed
and managed by the VPG Integrated Media, Boston, USA. It has been designed in
such a way that it can work without having internet access. It is a great tool for
the learners for not only teaching but also have the option of practicing and
getting scores that instigates learners to enhance their learning quality.
All the tasks are arranged into six different parts. They are—
1.
Editing exercises:
This portion comprises of proof reading tasks. Students have the option to read
texts and correct different parts of language. The learners can always check
their answers in the practice sessions.
2.
Identifying rhetorical paragraphs: Students
can learn and practice the way of writing different types of paragraph and can
detect the correct option.
3.
Working with
transitions:
this part teaches students transitional verbs by allowing students select words
from texts.
4.
Organizing your
thoughts: It
is a portion of rearranging sentences using choose the correct answer.
5.
Recognizing your
thesis statement: The
proper guideline is addressed is this portion. Students can choose appropriate
answers to practice thesis statement.
6.
Practicing
Grammar: In
this portion learners get the opportunity to practice grammar.
Ever Write includes a large number
of practicing tasks for the learners. The setting system indirectly supports
learners practice these task again and again. It gives a helpful amount of
feedback with every answer. It also defines why the answer is such in different
cases. The prompt feedback that it provides can motivate the learners to take
the test for several times until they achieved their expected level of
competence.
There are some visible flaws of the software. The software
doesn’t state for which level of students it should be used for but it seems
fit for per-intermediate level learners. The tasks also contain a lot of
reading units and there are no listening options or tasks. So it actually
sidetracks the principles of Communicative Language Teaching. There is a little
problem with the scoring sheet. Instructions for some tasks are not 100% clear.
The whole software seems a little outdated and needs revision.
At last it can be
said that, it is an enthusiastic tool for the learners and teachers should give
it to students for practice for developing their depth of language and grammar.
