TESOL: The class review

Education of TESOL makes us move in the pitch of teaching English to speakers of other languages. There are various places around the world who will not accept a native-English speaking teacher without an accredited TESOL Certificate. To be a part of TESOL at BRAC Institute of Language (BIL) feels very delighted. There are the most knowledgeable teachers who are taking our classes. I have taken 3 courses in the very first semester. They are
TSL 501: Introduction to Linguistics
TSL 503: Syllabus Design and Material Development &
TSL 507: Technique of ELT

First of all, Introduction to Linguistic is basically related with the nature and structure which surveys the scientific study of language and answer the question of what it means to know a language. The areas include speech sound, phonology, word structure, sentence structure, how language is accrued and language in society. Our teacher is teaching the phonetics part. He is using Internet and practical movements for understanding the vowel and consonant sounds perfectly. He has also given us to write a paper on the relation between language and thought. This is an interesting thing and I am working on that.

Next, Syllabus Design and Materials Development course will underlying the design of the syllabus and examine various types of English language syllabuses on offer. It will study the implementation and the evaluation of syllabuses, the relevance of the syllabus to existing teaching materials, developing and producing appropriate materials. Our teacher is very much experienced regarding making syllabus. He has given the appropriate instruction of making survey form, a need analysis interview for teachers and focus group discussion with students to complete a report based on Need Analysis and Syllabus Design. Now we are working with those things to make a relevant report.

Finally, Technique of ELT is the most favorite course of mine because I love technology. Computer technology and digital devices are becoming more popular in our personal, academic and professional life. This course includes practical works rather than theoretical. This course have techniques of using language, learning software, blogs in language teaching, wikis and collaborative language learning, tasks and exercise for the wed, hot potatoes etc. We are now working with blogs. We are assigned to compel many articles. Everyone can identify us by bloggers.

TESOL: The class review 1


TESOL the name is too easy to utter but too hard to proceed. One should be a hard worker if s/he wants to be a TESOL graduate. Every single day we have to face new challenges and surprising work.

Our honorable teacher is very much potential. He tries his heart and soul to make us understand each topic of phonetics and phonology. Very technically, he makes us able to understand phonetics and phonology. I am still working with the paper called relation between language and thought.

We have completed a lot of task this week. The busiest week is ever. The most essential task is needs analysis report. We have to complete a survey and made questionnaire and FGD for the undergraduate students of BRAC University and interview questions for teachers. We have hanged around a whole day to complete the survey. When the survey is completed we sit for analyzing the findings. Then, we started our work on report writing. I took the finding part which is the life of the report. I started work with normal graph and chart which is useless. Then I found complete gratification by using SPSS. Our report is enriched and we are poised. We are very much astonished when our course teacher inquired for presentation. We have to provide our presentation immediately without preparation. In general the whole thing was flawless. Now we are working hard for syllabus design and material development.

We are exploring several things at ICT class. Every week we are going through various inventions. Blogging is a must. The hot potatoes is the new work for us. Hot potatoes is a software program that can help teachers and students. Hot potatoes will help the student to evaluate the questions which have multiple options with one correct answer. Students have to choose correct answers and that will evaluated automatically by the system. The Hot Potatoes include five applications that can create exercises for the World Wide Web. The applications are JCloze, JCross, JMatch, JMix and JQuiz. There is also a sixth application called The Masher that will compile all the Hot Potatoes exercises into one unit.
